Confirm the work area before the job
The written quote should identify the room, ceiling boundary, expected finish, exclusions and access requirements. Ask whether the work involves local patching, sanding, painting, removal of old sheets, cornice work, insulation or fixture coordination. Preparation for a small crack repair is very different from a full strip-out.
Move or protect furniture
Remove small objects, wall decorations, fragile items and valuables from the room. Where practical, move furniture completely out of the work area. Large items that cannot be removed should be grouped where directed and protected as agreed in the quote.
Ceiling work can create fine dust even when controls are used. Empty open shelving, cover nearby electronics and consider adjacent areas where doors will be opened during access and clean-up.
Provide safe, clear access
- Keep entries, stairs and hallways clear.
- Arrange parking or loading access where required.
- Identify ceiling heights, stair voids or restricted areas before the job.
- Keep children and pets away from the work zone.
- Tell CRP about alarm systems, access codes, tenants or building rules.
Lights, fans and ceiling services
Identify lights, fans, alarms, air-conditioning outlets and access panels within the affected area. The written quote should state how fixtures and services will be handled and whether another qualified trade is required. Do not remove or isolate electrical fittings unless you are authorised and competent to do so.
Preparing for a full ceiling replacement
A room replacement may require removal of old plasterboard, insulation and cornices before new sheets are installed and finished. The room may be unavailable for several stages while setting compounds and coatings are completed.
Discuss floor protection, waste removal, insulation, cornice, painting, furniture, curtains and access in advance. CRP offers a seven-year warranty on new ceiling installations, subject to the written scope and warranty terms.
Occupied homes, rentals and strata properties
For occupied properties, plan how residents will enter and move around the building while the work area is isolated. Rentals and strata properties may require owner approval, tenant notice, common-area protection and coordination with a strata manager.
